The 1997 Paintball World Cup, also known as the 1997 NPPL World Cup, was an international paintball tournament held from 21 to 26 October 1997 at Paintball World in Kissimmee, Florida, United States. Promoted by Jerry Braun as part of the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL), it featured five-player and ten-player competition.[1]

Jacksonville Warriors won the professional five-player competition, while Team Image won the professional ten-player championship. Fighters and Lockout won the respective amateur competitions.[2][3]

Tournament

Professional and amateur teams competed together during the preliminary rounds before progressing to separate competitions. Five-player preliminary games took place on 21–22 October, followed by the semi-finals and finals on 23 October. The ten-player competition concluded on 26 October.[1][2][3]

A five-player novice competition was introduced during the tournament to give lower-placed teams another opportunity to compete for trophies. Bizzaro won this division.[2]

Playing fields

The venue combined wooded playing fields with artificial-bunker fields. The woodland fields included natural cover and wooden bunkers.[4]

A Hyperball field was used for ten-player competition. An inflatable-bunker field, described in contemporary WARPIG coverage as “Superball”, featured cylinders and cones. The report noted that paintballs could rebound from its flexible bunkers.[4]
