2011 Northland Open was a five-player paintball tournament held on 6 March 2011 at Strategy Tag Paintball in Mangapai, near Whangārei, New Zealand. Eight teams competed in the event, which formed part of the established Northland Open tournament history.[1][2]

ADHD of Auckland won the tournament, defeating fellow Auckland team Disposal Unit in the final. TPC Blast and Gary Locks finished equal third.[1]

Tournament

The event took place at Strategy Tag Paintball, a commercial paintball venue in Mangapai, Northland.

Contemporary footage identifies the tournament date as 6 March 2011 and describes the competition as five-player speedball.[2]

The Northern Advocate reported that eight teams participated, including entries from Auckland, Tauranga, Whangārei and Kaikohe.[1]

Brent Matthews was identified as an event organiser and one of four referees officiating the competition.

Results

The Northern Advocate published the leading results and several additional team placings on 8 March 2011.[1]

TPC Blast and Gary Locks shared third place after deciding not to contest a playoff.[1]

The complete fifth- and eighth-place results have not been recovered.

Local teams

Whangārei-based Paranoia finished sixth. The team recorded several wins, including a victory over Auckland's Tempest.[1]

13th Division from Kaikohe finished seventh. Team spokesman Grant Dickenson described improvements compared with the team's previous tournament appearances, including a victory over Disposal Unit.

The article also reported that 13th Division had been invited to compete in a forthcoming New Zealand Paintball Players League (NZPPL) event, although its subsequent participation has not been established.[1]

Historical context

The Northland Open had been part of New Zealand's tournament paintball calendar since the 1990s.

Earlier editions included seven-player competition, while the 2011 tournament used a five-player format.

The 2011 result provides a documented early tournament victory for ADHD, preceding the team's later appearances in NZPPL and South Auckland Paintball Club competitions.

The tournament is also documented through contemporary video footage recorded at Strategy Tag Paintball.[2]
