Todd Adamson is an American professional paintball player, team owner and businessman. He is best known for his championship-winning career with Chicago Aftershock and the Los Angeles Ironmen, as well as his involvement in the paintball equipment industry. Adamson began playing paintball in 1986 and competed for the Florida Annihilators before establishing Team Rage. He subsequently became captain of Chicago Aftershock, one of the leading professional teams of the 1990s and early 2000s.[1] He co-founded Extreme Rage, a manufacturer of paintball apparel and equipment, with his wife Tami Adamson. In 2024, he returned to professional team ownership when Chicago Aftershock was relaunched in the National Xball League (NXL).[1][2] Adamson was included in the inaugural Iconic Paintball Hall of Icons class in 2023.[3] == Playing career == === Early career and Team Rage === Adamson began playing paintball in 1986, initially competing with the Florida Annihilators before founding Team Rage.[1] By 1996, he was captain of Rage, which competed internationally with a roster incorporating players from established American professional teams. In June 1996, Adamson travelled to Australia with Rage for the Australian Masters at Skirmish Adventures in Helensburgh, New South Wales. In an interview published in Australian Paintballer, Adamson discussed the team's tactical approach, training methods and experience competing on Australian speedball fields. He emphasised communication, accuracy, structured practice and coordinated movement as important elements of competitive tournament paintball.[4] Rage subsequently finished fourth in the professional ten-player division at the 1996 NPPL World Cup in Orlando, Florida.[5] === Chicago Aftershock === Adamson joined Chicago Aftershock during the 1990s, becoming a prominent member of the team's championship-winning roster. By 1999, he was competing alongside Danny Love, Mike Bruno, Billy Ceranski, Ryan Williams and Ronnie Simpkins. Contemporary rosters from the 1999 Skyball tournament in Toronto confirm his membership of the team.[6] Adamson served as Aftershock's captain during the 2001 National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) season. The team's official professional roster listed him as captain alongside players including Love, Bruno, Ceranski, Markus Nielsen, Ralph Sotelo and Dan Holmes.[7] Aftershock won the professional ten-player division at the 2001 NPPL Atlantic City Gambler's Open. The team subsequently secured the 2001 NPPL professional season championship, finishing ahead of its major rivals in the overall series standings.[8][9] In 2002, Aftershock won the professional ten-player division at the PSP Las Vegas Open. Contemporary reporting highlighted Adamson's performance during the semi-finals, including successful defensive situations against Avalanche and Bad Company.[10] Aftershock also won the professional ten-player championship at the 2002 Paintball World Cup in Kissimmee, Florida. This was the final World Cup of the original NPPL professional ten-player era before the major tournament organisations expanded into seven-player and X-Ball competition.[11] === Los Angeles Ironmen === Adamson subsequently joined the Los Angeles Ironmen during the expansion of professional X-Ball. He was among several former Aftershock players recruited by the organisation, alongside Ryan Williams. Contemporary coverage of the 2007 PSP Los Angeles Open identified Adamson among the experienced players who had joined the Ironmen during the preceding seasons.[12] The Ironmen won the 2007 Los Angeles Open, defeating Boston Red Legion in overtime. Adamson subsequently stepped away from regular professional X-Ball competition but continued participating in traditional ten-player tournaments.[1] === Return to ten-player competition === Adamson returned to classic-format paintball through events organised by the International Classic Paintball League (ICPL). He competed with Aftershock and the All Americans in mechanical ten-player tournaments. In 2023, Adamson was part of an Aftershock roster competing at the ICPL Sunshine Classic in Florida. The team included former professional players Billy Ceranski and Renick Miller, alongside contemporary professional competitors.[13] == Paintball business activities == === Extreme Rage === Adamson and his wife Tami established Extreme Rage, a Florida-based paintball equipment and apparel company. The business produced paintball pod harnesses, playing clothing, protective equipment and accessories. United States trademark records identify Todd E. Adamson and Tami L. Pickering as the applicants for the Extreme Rage trademark, with the first documented commercial use dated 1 September 1997.[14] By the early 2000s, Extreme Rage had become an established supplier of paintball soft goods. At the 2001 International Amateur Open, the company exhibited its product range, including a newly introduced backpack. Contemporary WARPIG coverage identified Todd as Aftershock captain and Tami as captain of Femmes Fatale, the women's paintball team, while describing their joint leadership of Extreme Rage.[15] === Paintball fields === Adamson was also involved in operating commercial paintball facilities in Florida. In September 1999, WARPIG identified him as the owner of Paintball Park in Fort Myers, which hosted the inaugural Florida State Five-Man Championships.[16] Todd and Tami later operated Extreme Rage Paintball Park, also in Fort Myers. The facility hosted recreational games, scenario events and tournament practice sessions, including training involving professional teams.[17] == Chicago Aftershock ownership == In late 2023, Adamson and Tami acquired a professional NXL franchise position previously associated with Columbus LVL, with plans to restore the Chicago Aftershock name to the professional division. The relaunched Aftershock organisation entered the 2024 NXL season under Adamson's ownership. The team announced DYE Precision as its equipment partner and recruited Todd Martinez as head coach.[18][19] The revived organisation brought together established professional players and new recruits, including former Aftershock player Nick Slowiak. Adamson also supported the development of additional Aftershock-affiliated teams competing in classic and regional tournament formats. The organisation subsequently expanded into European competition through a team named Shock, supported by DYE Paintball.[20] As of 2026, Chicago Aftershock's official website continued to identify Adamson as team owner and head coach.[21] == Playing style and recognition == Adamson was primarily associated with back-line and support play. His responsibilities included controlling shooting lanes, eliminating opponents during the opening stages of games and communicating information to advancing teammates. His playing style was characterised by sustained accuracy and field awareness, rather than primarily relying on aggressive forward movement. In 2021, Iconic Paintball included Adamson in its historical assessment of professional players, particularly recognising his contributions as a back player.[22] He was subsequently included in the inaugural Iconic Paintball Hall of Icons induction class, officially designated the Class of 2023. His individual induction profile is labelled 2022, although the official class archive uses 2023.[3] == Selected achievements == {| class="wikitable" ! Year ! Competition ! Achievement !
