Snapshooting, also written snap shooting or snap-shooting, is a paintball technique in which a player briefly moves out from behind cover, fires one or a few shots, and returns to cover. Its purpose is to engage an opponent while limiting the amount of the player's body and equipment exposed to incoming paint.[1] == Technique == A snapshot combines aiming, controlled movement and a rapid return behind a bunker. The player keeps the paintball marker ready and aligned towards the expected target before moving far enough out of cover to shoot.[1] Instruction commonly emphasises a stable stance and economical movement. Unnecessary movement of the marker can make the first shot less accurate, while excessive movement beyond the bunker exposes more of the player.[1] Players practise shooting from both sides of cover, using the corresponding hand and shoulder to keep their equipment and body protected. The stance and movement used can vary with the bunker and the player's position.[1][2] == Use in play == Snapshooting allows a player to challenge an opponent without remaining continuously exposed. It is particularly relevant when opposing players are watching each other's bunker edges.[1] The technique requires a balance between speed and accuracy. Moving quickly is useful only if the player can deliver an effective shot and return behind cover. In his instructional material, Jason Edwards recommends developing smooth, controlled movement before increasing speed.[3] == Training == Snapshooting drills commonly use a fixed target positioned beyond a bunker. The player repeatedly moves out, fires and returns to cover, practising accuracy and consistent movement.[3] In Edwards' Three in a Row drill, the player fires one paintball per snapshot and must hit the target three consecutive times. A miss resets the count. Difficulty can be increased by making the target smaller, increasing the distance or requiring more consecutive hits.[3] Snapshooting is also assessed in organised skills programmes. The BKI Paintball Combine includes a timed target exercise performed with both hands, measuring accuracy and speed.[2] == See also == * Paintball marker * Speedball * Bunker * BKI Paintball == References == # Shooting Skills: Snap Shooting.
