Paintball BOP was a paintball field operator and tournament organiser in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, associated with Brendon Charles. Its archived website advertised playing fields in Rotorua and Tauranga and documented its involvement in the early Volcanic tournaments. The operation was subsequently promoted through the Paintball Sportz website.[1][2][3] == History == Paintball BOP's archived tournament history identifies the business and the Rotorua Paintball Club as organisers of the 2001 and 2002 Volcanic tournaments at Rotorua International Stadium.[2] A contemporary report on Team Kiwi's 2004 visit to Malaysia described Brendon Charles as running Paintball BOP and being a half-owner of Paintball Sportz.[3] By December 2005, Paintball Sportz's website described its Rotorua and Tauranga fields as formerly known as Paintball Rotorua and Paintball BOP. Its linked field website retained the Paintball BOP name in its description of the operation and listed Charles as the contact.[1][4] == Playing fields == === Rotorua === The Rotorua field was located at 62 Te Manu Road, Paradise Valley. An archived page from November 2004 described a combination of natural and constructed obstacles, including tree ferns, stumps, fallen logs, timber barricades, inflatable bunkers and sandbag positions.[5] The field advertised an elevated spectator and barbecue area overlooking the playing area, together with lighting for night games.[5] === Tauranga === The Tauranga field operated at the Valley Outdoor Centre, Merrick Road, Pyes Pa. Its website described a symmetrical tyre field and a tournament-style inflatable speedball field.[6] === Services === The business advertised permanent bush and speedball fields in both cities, as well as portable inflatable fields. It accepted bookings for private groups, businesses, schools and social occasions.[1] A price page archived in January 2005 advertised supervised sessions for groups of at least six people, including equipment hire and paintballs.[7] == Club activities == The linked field website advertised club tournament days on the first Sunday of each month in Tauranga and the third Sunday in Rotorua.[1] Paintball Sportz's December 2005 website stated that it hosted the Rotorua Paintball Club, which organised regular club days and trips to events elsewhere in New Zealand.[4] == Tournament organisation == Paintball BOP's tournament page credited the business with organising the following events:[2] * 2001 Volcanic Rotorua Paintball Tournament, with the Rotorua Paintball Club, at Rotorua International Stadium. * 2002 Volcanic Rotorua Paintball Tournament, with the Rotorua Paintball Club, at Rotorua International Stadium. * 2003 V Comp Volcanic, at Rotorua International Stadium. * The 2004 NZ V Comp, at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton. == See also == * Paintball Sportz * Brendon Charles * Volcanic Rotorua Paintball Tournament * Paintball in New Zealand == References == # Paintball Sportz Sites / Paintball BOP β Rotorua and Tauranga. Archived 22 December 2005. # Paintball BOP β Tournaments. Archived 12 January 2005. # New Zealand Paintball Online β Team Kiwi: Malaysia 2004. January 2005; archived 18 December 2005. # Paintball Sportz NZ β Where to Play. Archived 11 December 2005. # Paintball BOP β Rotorua Site. Archived 14 November 2004. # Paintball BOP β Tauranga Site. Archived 9 January 2005. # Paintball BOP β Prices. Archived 11 January 2005. == External links == * Archived Paintball BOP field website
