The Mexican Paintball League (MPL), also described in Spanish as the Liga Mexicana de Paintball, was a Mexican paintball tournament circuit documented through a national season in 2009 and subsequent events under the MPL name.[1][2] It became an affiliate of Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) in April 2010.[3] Its tournament records are held within the present-day Mexican Xball League (MXL) archive on PBLeagues, although the precise date and terms of a formal change from MPL to MXL have not been established.[4][5] == History == === Early records and the 2009 season === A LiveTheSport forum index records a discussion titled 1er. Evento MPL guadalajara, with its last post dated 27 May 2008. The discussion body has not been recovered, so the title alone does not establish its organisational relationship to the national league documented in 2009.[6] In a 2009 UNAM study, Saraí Fuentes García described an agreement between major Mexican paintball businesses in January 2009 to create a unified national league under the Mexican Paintball League name.[1] MPL's own blog carried a welcome post dated 24 January 2009.[7] These records document its early national organisation and web presence without establishing a precise legal founding date. The 2009 MPL programme listed rounds in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara, followed by a second Mexico City event. Open competition used five-player teams and Novice competition used three-player teams.[1] The recovered September rankings cover the first three rounds; they do not establish the final season champions.[8] === PSP affiliation and subsequent events === On 22 April 2010, an announcement published by MPL confirmed its affiliation with PSP. It identified Daniel Velez as MPL president and stated that the league would use the RaceTo format, enforce PSP rules and register players through the APPA classification system. The advertised divisions were five-player Open and Intermediate, and three-player Novice, all using race-to-two competition.[3] The tournament archive records subsequent events in cities including Puerto Vallarta, Monterrey, Querétaro, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Toluca and Mexico City.[4] Individual event names continued to use MPL, including the 2014 MPL Guadalajara Open First Round and 2015 MPL León Open.[4][5] A Planet Eclipse report published on 26 November 2014 described MPL as a joint venture organised by Jose Luis Alvarez of Planet Eclipse Mexico, Arturo Andrade and Pablo Villegas of Evolution Pb. It dated the league's inception to 2009.[2] This identifies the organisers named in that report; it does not explain any intervening changes in administration. == Connections with MXball and MXL == === MXball === MXball appears in contemporary records as a league with its own events and website. In January 2009, a LiveTheSport discussion reproduced an MXball announcement postponing its proposed Cancún event for financial reasons. The administrator account KF subsequently attributed the cancellation to insufficient paid entries and the cost of continuing preparations.[9] The same discussion contained a participant's reference to another competition as “MLP”, expanded as Liga Mexicana de Paintball. This is a participant's wording, rather than an organiser's statement of a merger or name change.[9] The PBLeagues information page for MPL's 2010 Guadalajara event links to mxball3.com.[10] This documents a website connection, but does not by itself establish that MXball was renamed MPL. No recovered formal announcement establishes an MXball-to-MPL merger or renaming. === Mexican Xball League === PBLeagues places MPL events and later MXL events within the same league record, numbered 120.[4] The León event dated 18–19 April 2015 retains the explicit title MPL LEON OPEN 2015.[5] By October 2016, an archived xballmexico.com contact page identified the organisation as MXL Mexican Xball League.[11] DYE's report Riot Wins MXL also uses the Mexican Xball League name, links to xballmexico.com and describes MXL as an NXL affiliate.[12] These records document a shared tournament archive and the use of MPL and MXL names at different dates. They do not establish the date, ownership terms or legal mechanism of a formal renaming. Nor do the affiliation reports establish that the change from PSP affiliation to NXL affiliation caused a league name change.[3][12] == See also == * 2009 MPL * 2010 MPL * 2011 MPL * 2012 MPL * 2013 MPL * MXball * Mexican Xball League == References == # Saraí Fuentes García: Propuesta de campaña publicitaria para posicionar el paintball: una alternativa de deporte extremo en el Distrito Federal, UNAM, 2009, p. 44. # Planet Eclipse: MPL in Guadalajera, 26 November 2014. # MPL: MPL afiliado oficialmente a la PSP !!!!!!, 22 April 2010, archived on 31 May 2010. # PBLeagues: Mexican Xball League — archived event calendar. # PBLeagues: MPL LEON OPEN 2015, 18–19 April 2015. # [https://web.archive.org/web/20090125100035/http://livethesport.com:80/ltsforo/forumdisplay.php?s=c952b7b8e8b89012819415184ccc273a&f=26&order=desc&page=3 LiveTheSport: tournament forum index, including 1er.
