Damage Inc was a Christchurch-based New Zealand tournament paintball team documented between 2000 and 2002. It won the 2000 Dunedin City Challenge and finished second at the 2001 Invercargill Three-Man Tournament.[1][2] Contemporary forum contributors explicitly distinguished Damage Inc from the North Island team Damage, later known as KC Damage.[3] == History == === Dunedin City Challenge, 2000 === Damage Inc competed at the 2000 Dunedin City Challenge, organised by The Ultimate Game Dunedin. The tournament used five-player teams, with a limit of 200 paintballs per player per end. The contemporary report identifies Damage Inc as the Christchurch entry.[1] Damage Inc scored 55 points during the morning round and 245 during the afternoon round, qualifying for the final against Southern Raiders.[1] The team won the two-end final 55–40. Tony Witheridge of Paintball Supply NZ played as a guest for Damage Inc. This documents his participation at that event rather than permanent team membership.[1] The contemporary Paintball.co.nz article index lists the tournament under November 2000, although the report does not provide a numerical playing date.[1][8] Damage Inc subsequently appeared in the 2000 Valhalla National Rankings, placing twenty-first with a ranking score of 54.67.[9] === 2001 season === Damage Inc appeared in the 2001 national three-player standings. It received ranking contributions of 36.5 and 5 from the preliminary and final rounds of the National Three-Man Centre Flag Championships, producing a total of 41.5 and nineteenth place in the published standings.[10] These figures are normalised Valhalla ranking values rather than raw tournament scores. The available ranking table does not establish Damage Inc’s precise tournament placing.[10] ==== Invercargill Three-Man Tournament ==== Damage Inc entered the 2001 Invercargill Three-Man Tournament, played over two days on fields identified in the report as the Hill Field and Moat Field. The other entries were Flashpoint, TeamX and Fear Factory.[2] The report explicitly identifies TeamX as Damage Inc’s second team. TeamX was therefore a secondary event entry associated with Damage Inc rather than a separately established permanent team. Its line-up was described as one player with approximately three weeks’ experience and two returning veterans, but the players were not named.[2] Damage Inc recorded 56 points on Saturday and 119 on Sunday. It then lost the final to Flashpoint 4–49.[2] The published daily totals represent the respective day’s matches rather than cumulative weekend scores. The report is credited to Mark Abbott and includes a first-person account of Damage Inc’s play. It does not provide a complete roster.[2] === Volcanic Rotorua, 2002 === Damage Inc competed at the 2002 Volcanic Rotorua Paintball Tournament, held at Rotorua International Stadium on 1–2 June.[11] Twenty teams entered the centre-flag tournament. Following the preliminary pools, ten teams advanced to the Cup and ten to the Plate. Damage Inc finished sixth in the Plate standings with 392 points.[11] This is the latest confirmed tournament result for Damage Inc identified in the inspected sources. It does not establish when the team ceased operating. === Contemporary forum activity === In a November 2001 team-contact discussion, contributors identified Ric and JiNX as contacts for the South Island team. JiNX explicitly corrected its name to Damage Inc and signed as Mark. The discussion separately associated the North Island Damage team with Jason Newport.[3] On 7 November 2001, a contributor using the name Noddy supplied `ultimategame.co.nz` as the team’s website and signed with the Damage Inc name.[4] On 29 November 2001, JiNX, signing as Mark and Team Damage Inc, described a field-development project and announced a proposed construction journal on the website.[6] The post does not establish that every proposed field was completed or define ownership of the associated business. == TeamX == TeamX was explicitly identified as Damage Inc’s second entry at the 2001 Invercargill tournament.[2] Its tournament scores are retained separately because it competed under its own entry name. The inspected sources do not establish TeamX as a separate, continuing organisation. A standalone team article is therefore not presently warranted. == Documented personnel == {| class="wikitable" ! The available evidence does not establish surnames for Ric or Noddy, conclusively identify JiNX as Mark Abbott or identify a team captain.[3] == Sponsorship and support == On 25 November 2001, JiNX described support received by Damage Inc:[5] * Southprint supplied the team’s banner and vehicle graphics. * Badger supplied casualwear and printing on team shirts. * Paintball Supply N.Z. provided equipment pricing and marker tuning. These are contemporary statements of support and do not establish particular contractual terms or sponsorship periods. == Tournament results == {| class="wikitable" ! Year ! That team later used the name KC Damage and was unrelated to Christchurch’s Damage Inc.[7] Unqualified records using only Damage should not be assigned to Damage Inc unless their event context identifies the Christchurch team. == See also == * KC Damage (New Zealand Paintball Team) * Flashpoint (New Zealand Paintball Team) * Volcanic Rotorua Paintball Tournament * Paintball in New Zealand == References == # Brian Thornley, Dunedin City Challenge 2000, Paintball.co.nz. # Mark Abbott, The 2001 Invercargil 3-man, Paintball.co.nz. # Team Captain Contact Details, NZ Paintball forum, November 2001. # Lets see some Team Websites, NZ Paintball forum, including Noddy’s post of 7 November 2001. # SPONSORING~~!!!, NZ Paintball forum, including JiNX’s reply of 25 November 2001. # ANYthing big???, NZ Paintball forum, including JiNX’s reply of 29 November 2001. # ‘Hitman’ fails to save Team Damage paintballers, newspaper report reproduced on the NZ Paintball forum, November 2001. # Paintball.co.nz article index. # 2000 Valhalla National Rankings, Mercenaries Star. # 2001 Valhalla National Rankings, Mercenaries Star. # Rob Maddox, The 2002 Rotorua Volcanic Paintball Tournament, Paintball.co.nz.
