'''Cynical''' was a competitive [[paintball]] team from Wellington, New Zealand. The team is documented at two tournaments in 2005, placing seventh at the [[2005 Auckland Queen’s Birthday Superball]] and fifth in the opening round of the [[2005 Sire Cup]].[1][2]

Contemporary records sometimes rendered the name as '''Synicool'''. Team members explicitly corrected that spelling to Cynical.[3]

== History ==

Cynical competed at the 2005 Auckland Queen’s Birthday Superball at Kumeu Showgrounds on 4–5 June. The contemporary result listed the team as `Synicool` in seventh place overall and in the Cup classification.[1] A participant's post-event account described the tournament as Cynical's second event, but the team's first competition has not been identified in the surviving sources.[4]

Following the tournament, team members Jake and Conan stated that the correct name was Cynical. Another contemporary participant explained that the team had always used that spelling and that its name had previously been recorded incorrectly in Wellington.[3]

Brett, posting as '''JazzyBrett''', played the Auckland tournament with Cynical as a guest after one of the team's expected players did not attend. Brett identified Relic as his own team and said he had initially expected to act only as a relief player. The source does not establish a permanent move to Cynical.[3]

On 24 July 2005, Cynical competed in the opening round of the Wellington three-player series advertised as the Sire Challenge Cup. The team finished fifth of eleven entries with 606 points.[2]

Cynical subsequently appeared on the proposed entry list for a Wellington Labour Weekend tournament in October 2005. The surviving thread does not contain final results or establish that the tournament took place, so this is not treated as confirmed participation.[5]
