The 2008 Millennium Series German Masters, also promoted as the MAXS German Masters, was a Millennium Series paintball tournament held at the Nürburgring in Germany in September 2008. It was the fourth of five events in the 2008 Millennium Series season, preceding the French Open at Paris-Disney.[1][2][3] Philly Dogs won the professional Champions Paintball League (CPL) competition, defeating Joy Stockholm 5–3 in the final. Budapest Bullets finished third after beating Marseille Icon 5–4.[4] == Event == The Nürburgring round followed the season's tournaments in Málaga, London and Toulouse. WARPIG published a virtual field preview based on the Millennium Series' field maps and Sup'Air bunker dimensions.[1][2] Budapest Bullets entered the tournament leading the CPL championship with 248 points, narrowly ahead of Joy Stockholm on 244. Moscow Phoenix stood third with 184.[2] == Champions Paintball League == === Preliminary round === The 16 CPL teams competed in four preliminary groups. The published group standings identified the following eight quarter-finalists.[5] {| class="wikitable" ! Preliminary group ! First ! Budapest advanced with two victories, having beaten Oslo 5–1 and Shock 5–0.[5] Group B ended with Joy Stockholm, Marseille Icon and Frankfurt Syndicate each recording two wins and one defeat. Although Syndicate beat Joy 5–2, the published standings placed Joy and Icon above Syndicate on the points differential. Syndicate finished ninth in the event.[2][5][6] Riga and Copenhagen Ducks advanced from Group D with two wins each. Riga defeated Copenhagen 5–2, while Copenhagen beat Stockholm Ignition 5–1 and Moscow Caste 5–3.[5] === Knockout stages === Philly Dogs defeated Copenhagen Ducks 5–3 in the quarter-finals and Marseille Icon by the same score in the semi-finals. Joy Stockholm reached the final with victories over London Nexus and Budapest Bullets.[7][8] The final ended 5–3 to Philly Dogs. Budapest took third place with a 5–4 victory over Icon.[4] {| class="wikitable" ! Stage ! Winning team ! Score ! These points contributed to the season standings and are distinct from individual match scores.[2] {| class="wikitable" ! Position ! Team ! Joy left Germany with 332 points, while Budapest had 328, leaving four points between them before the final round in Paris.[2] Moscow Phoenix remained third on 248 points. Philly Dogs' victory raised its total to 232, following second place at Toulouse and finishes outside the top eight at the opening two events.[2] Marseille Icon's fourth place was its highest CPL finish of the season. The team accumulated 192 points through the German round, level on points with London Nexus.[2] == See also == * Millennium Series * 2008 Millennium Series season * 2008 Millennium Series French Open == References == # Millennium Series Nürburgring: Event Field Layout — WARPIG, September 2008. # CPL ranking 2008 — The Millennium Series, archived official event placings and season standings. # Coming Up This Weekend: Millenium Series MAXS German Masters — SEBURO, 1 September 2008, within the September archive. # Philly Dogs Win Millenium Series Germany — SEBURO, 7 September 2008. # Millenium Series Prelim Report — SEBURO, 7 September 2008.
