The 1996 NPPL New York Cup was a paintball tournament held at Survival New York in Plattekill, New York, during the National Professional Paintball League's 1996 season. Jerry Braun arranged the event at short notice following the cancellation of the league's planned European Cup.[1][2] Image won professional ten-man and OBR won amateur ten-man. ClassicScores also records victories for the All Americans in professional five-man and Lockout in amateur five-man.[1][2] == Background and NPPL affiliation == Tim Tighe's contemporary report in Paintball Sports described the New York Cup as part of that year's NPPL circuit. It explained that Braun organised the tournament after the cancellation of the European Cup, the NPPL's planned British event.[1] Although ClassicScores files the New York Cup under independent events, the contemporary account explicitly identifies its relationship to the NPPL.[1][2] == Venue and organisation == The tournament ran over three days and attracted 28 teams, according to Tighe's report. The short preparation period meant there were no trade booths.[1] Competition used three large woodland fields: Ponderosa, Challenger and Ambush Pines. Ponderosa required a long opening run before opposing teams could engage. Challenger combined higher central ground with lower areas along the boundaries, while Ambush Pines was dominated by sloping terrain.[1] The fields were more than 600 yards from the staging area, and the organiser provided a shuttle bus. Heavy showers affected the opening day, followed by clearer weather for the remaining two days.[1] == Ten-man competition == === Professional division === Image qualified eighth for the professional semi-finals before advancing to the final round with GBD, the All Americans and the Ironmen. None of the four finalists achieved a maximum-scoring game during the final round.[1] Image won with 63 points, ahead of GBD on 48. The All Americans and Ironmen both finished on 33, with the All Americans taking third place through their higher qualifying-round score.[1] === Amateur division === OBR won all three final-round games with maximum scores, finishing on 300 points. X-Men placed second, followed by All Americans II and X-Treme.[1] == Results == === Professional ten-man === The contemporary report and ClassicScores agree on the following placings. Points are final-round totals.[1][2] {| class="wikitable" ! Place !! Team !!
