Proto sponsorship and expansion (2005)
During the 2004 season, promoter Dan Bonebrake brought Shawn Walker into the organisation.

Walker became head of operations before the final two events of the year.[5]

For 2005, Proto Paintball, a division of DYE Precision, became the league's title sponsor. The circuit was subsequently promoted as the Proto XPSL.

The league introduced changes to player classification and prize structures, including cash prizes for the amateur division.

Its five principal tournaments were held in California, including events at SC Village, Santa Clara Paintball Park, Outlaw Paintball Park in Redlands and Hollywood Sports Park in Bellflower.[5][6]

The league also sanctioned affiliated tournaments organised independently by participating teams. These events allowed teams to earn additional season points while providing opportunities for local tournament promotion and fundraising.[6]

The final major event of the 2005 season took place at Hollywood Sports Park from 7 to 9 October.

TKO won the amateur division, Vengeance won novice, Epic SCP won rookie and Mixed Kids won the Young Guns competition.[7]
