In 1998, Tippmann introduced the Model 98.

The marker featured a die-cast aluminium receiver, mechanical blowback operation and a simplified manufacturing design.

Its construction allowed the company to produce a relatively inexpensive marker while retaining a durable mechanical operating system.

The subsequent 98 Custom introduced greater compatibility with upgrades and accessories, including alternative trigger systems and barrels.

The Model 98 family became one of Tippmann's most recognisable product ranges and was widely used for commercial rental operations.[3][6]
