Editing Paintball World Cup (section)

NPPL era
During the 1990s, the World Cup became one of the principal events of the National Professional Paintball League.

The tournament featured professional and amateur competition, generally using five-player and 10-player formats.

At the 1996 NPPL World Cup, Chicago Aftershock won the professional 10-player competition.

The tournament also featured the American debut of Hyperball, a field format using large corrugated plastic pipes as artificial bunkers.[7]

The 1997 World Cup included the American debut of the inflatable Sup'AirBall field system.

By the 1999 World Cup, the tournament had expanded to a larger site near Kissimmee. Chicago Aftershock won the professional 10-player competition, while Lockout won the professional five-player division.[8]

In 2000, the Ironmen won the professional 10-player division and the All Americans won the professional five-player competition.[9]

By this stage, the tournament was being played entirely on constructed concept fields rather than traditional woodland layouts.
