== Commercial operations and public scrutiny == === Orange County development proposal === Bukowski and D'Egidio were also involved in efforts to develop a paintball facility in Orange County, California. A November 2007 investigation by the ''Los Angeles Times'' examined a proposed paintball park lease associated with the Orange County Fairgrounds and the administration of Sheriff Michael Carona.[10] The report described financial and business dealings involving the two paintball entrepreneurs and individuals connected with Carona. It also reported allegations contained in a federal indictment concerning the use of political influence in connection with the proposed development. The article identified Bukowski and D'Egidio as operators of several paintball facilities. The reported allegations concerned a wider public corruption investigation and should not be interpreted as establishing criminal wrongdoing by Bukowski. The available source does not establish that Bukowski was convicted of an offence in connection with the matter. === Historical context === The Orange County proposal illustrates the challenges involved in developing large commercial paintball facilities in urban Southern California. Such projects could require negotiations involving land use, public authorities and substantial capital investment. The history of the proposal is separate from Bukowski's documented contributions to paintball field design and tournament infrastructure.
