The Royal Rat Rangers developed from a group of recreational paintball players who regularly practised together in South Florida.

Maurice Gibb had first played paintball during the 1980s before returning to the sport following discussions with his friend and later teammate Frederick Renucci.

The two began playing at Rough and Tough, a Florida paintball facility operated by Pete Bofill, a professional player associated with Team Rage.[1]

In an interview conducted by Carmen Borgia for the January 2002 edition of ''Crossfire Magazine'', Gibb explained that the team developed from approximately six regular players who demonstrated a commitment to practising together.

He identified players known as Ken, Dad and Jason among the original group but did not provide their complete names.

Gibb served as team captain, while Renucci helped with organisation and administration.[1]
