Editing Paintball World Cup (section)

=== Origins ===

The Paintball World Cup was established by American tournament promoter Jerry Braun at Survival New York, a paintball facility in Newburgh, New York.

Published accounts disagree on the exact inaugural year.

WARPIG's 2005 retrospective, which included recollections from Braun, identified 1992 as the first tournament, involving 16 teams.[1]

A December 2025 article in ''Paintball Media'' dated the inaugural competition to 1990 and identified the PMI Piranhas as the first winners.[2]

The National Xball League's official 2024 historical account instead identified 1993 as the inaugural year, with [[Aftershock]] winning the first competition.[6]

These conflicting historical accounts have not been conclusively reconciled.

The early tournaments were played on woodland fields and used the traditional tournament format in which teams accumulated points through eliminations and flag objectives.
