Background
Competitive paintball expanded in Malaysia during the early 2000s through commercial playing facilities, recreational clubs, state associations and domestic tournament circuits.

The Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC) and Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL) provided organised domestic competition, while the Paintball Asia League Series, Nation Cup 2004, Asia Pacific Paintball Championship 2005 and Paintball World Cup Asia connected Malaysian paintball with the wider Asian tournament community.

A February 2010 federation proposal identified several issues which its organisers believed required national representation. These included the recognition of paintball as a sport, the legal classification of paintball markers, licensing for playing facilities, individual ownership of equipment, safety standards and grassroots development.[1]

The proposal described the initiative as the result of approximately five years of discussions with Malaysia's Ministry of Youth and Sports. This was a statement by the organisers rather than an independently published government history of the federation.[1]
