== Early involvement in paintball == === Background === Before entering the paintball industry, Bukowski worked as a police officer in Southern California. An oral-history account of the early paintball industry, based on an interview with Pursuit Marketing Inc. co-founder Jeff Perlmutter, identifies Bukowski as a police officer who became interested in paintball during the sport's early commercial development.[2] The account describes Bukowski as one of several early participants who turned their interest in the game into a commercial business. His exact dates of police service and the circumstances of his introduction to paintball have not been independently established. === Early equipment === Bukowski obtained equipment for his original paintball operation from [[Pursuit Marketing Inc.]] (PMI). According to the Paintball History interview with Jeff Perlmutter, Bukowski purchased his initial equipment package directly from Perlmutter and fellow PMI founder David Freeman.[2] The equipment included PMI PG paintball pistols. These early markers were representative of the equipment used during paintball's formative years, before semi-automatic markers and high-capacity loading systems became widespread. Bukowski's purchase of equipment from PMI connects the early history of SC Village with the development of the American commercial paintball equipment industry.
