Editing Evil Factory NZ (New Zealand Paintball Team)

'''Evil Factory NZ''' was a Wellington-based New Zealand tournament [[paintball]] team documented from 2004 to 2005. The team won the Cup at the 2004 Auckland Queen's Birthday Superball and later competed at the 2004 Rotorua tournament and the 2005 Queen's Birthday event.[1][2][3][4]

The New Zealand team was distinct from the visiting American Evil Factory squad that won the 2004 Wellington X-Cess tournament.[5]

== History ==

=== Formation and 2004 season ===

A contemporary New Zealand Paintball news report described Evil Factory NZ as a fairly recently assembled team from Wellington when it won the Queen's Birthday Superball in June 2004.[1] The surviving record does not establish a more precise formation date.

At the Superball tournament at Kumeu, Evil Factory NZ qualified for the four-team Cup competition alongside Saints, Raiderz and Sleazy Weasel. It faced Saints in the best-of-three final. After each team won one game, the third game ended as a draw. Evil Factory NZ received first place on the countback of individual game scores, having recorded a flag pull and hang in the second game. Saints finished second and Raiderz third.[2]

Evil Factory subsequently competed at the Rotorua International Stadium tournament during Labour Weekend. A contemporary report described it as a Wellington team and recorded American player John Rathbun playing with the side. Rathbun had competed in New Zealand earlier that year with the visiting American Evil Factory team.[3]

Evil Factory NZ defeated Saints during the Rotorua pool stage, but did not appear among the four Cup finalists or the reported Plate winner. Its final overall placing was not published in the surviving report.[3]

=== 2005 season ===

An April 2005 Queen's Birthday entry discussion identified Evil Factory as one of the Wellington teams expected to attend the Kumeu event.[6] A contemporary post-event account confirms that Evil competed and finished fifth.[4]

This 2005 appearance demonstrates that the Wellington team continued competing in New Zealand after the American visitors from the 2004 X-Cess event had returned home.

== Relationship with Evil Factory USA ==

The American Evil Factory team travelled to New Zealand for the [[2004 Wellington X-Cess]]. The visiting team won the Cup, defeating Saints in the final.[5]

Evil Factory NZ was a separate Wellington-based team. Contemporary reporting distinguishes the American tournament winner from the recently assembled New Zealand side that won the Auckland Queen's Birthday event two months later.[1][2][5]

John Rathbun's documented appearance with the Wellington team at Rotorua establishes a player connection between the two teams, but does not make their tournament records interchangeable.[3]
