(Redirected from 1996 Paintball World Cup)

The 1996 NPPL World Cup was an international paintball tournament held from 23 to 27 October 1996 at Paintball World in Kissimmee, Florida, United States. Sanctioned by the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL), the event featured professional and amateur five-player and ten-player competitions.[1]

Chicago Aftershock won the professional ten-player championship, finishing ahead of Bad Company (American paintball team). The All Americans won the professional five-player championship.[2][3]

The tournament also featured Hyperball playing fields, representing the increasing use of artificial obstacles in competitive paintball.[1]

Tournament

[edit]

The World Cup was held at Paintball World in Kissimmee, near Orlando.

Competition took place over five days, beginning on 23 October and concluding on 27 October 1996.

The event incorporated separate five-player and ten-player competitions, with professional and amateur classifications.

Contemporary coverage was published by WARPIG, which recorded preliminary standings, semifinal results and final placements.[1][2][3]

Playing fields

[edit]

The 1996 World Cup featured Hyperball fields using artificial obstacles.

Hyperball employed large plastic drainage pipes and similar structures to provide cover.

The introduction of these fields formed part of the wider development of artificial-bunker tournament paintball during the 1990s.[1]
