1987 Sat Cong Village Challenge Cup

From WikiPaintball

The 1987 Sat Cong Village Challenge Cup was a paintball tournament held at Sat-Cong Village in Corona, California, United States, from 29 August to 11 October 1987. Eleven teams entered the elimination competition.[1][2]

Wolf Pack won the championship by defeating Kamikaze Shooters in two games during a rain-affected final.[2]

Organisation

[edit]

An organisational meeting took place on 22 August 1987. Team representatives received rules handbooks, and a draw established the tournament bracket.[1]

The competition used matches of up to three games. Games could be decided by flag capture or surviving-player count. Tied matches could proceed to a fifteen-minute one-on-one play-off between designated team representatives.[1]

Markers were inspected and chronographed before games. The maximum permitted velocity was 300 feet per second.[2]

Participating teams

[edit]

The eleven entrants were:[1]

  • Beerborn Rangers
  • Head Hunters
  • Hello Kitty
  • Kamikaze Shooters
  • KMA
  • Marauders
  • Modern Marauders
  • Multi-Death
  • Sat-Cong Walk-ons
  • Urban GI
  • Wolf Pack

Navarone was invited but declined because of a prior commitment to an out-of-state tournament.[1]

The final was played on 11 October 1987, although the published bracket had originally scheduled it for 10 October.[1][2]

Wolf Pack won the first game by surviving-player count after attacking along the riverside. Heavy rain affected the second game, reducing visibility to less than 20 feet. Wolf Pack again prevailed on surviving-player count to secure the championship.[2]
