New page

'''Social Paintball League''' ('''SPL''') is a regional [[paintball]] tournament series established in Florida in 2014. Its events have been held in Florida and Georgia, with competition including three-player and five-player [[RaceTo|RaceTo-2]] formats. The league's annual calendar has included the '''Social Cup''', '''Sunshine State Open''' and '''Peach State Classic'''.[1][2][3]

== History ==
According to the league's own history, the idea for SPL developed in 2010, with its first event organised as a proof of concept in 2014. The stated aim was to address a gap in tournament paintball in Florida and provide a regional tournament experience modelled on national events.[1]

The inaugural tournament, the '''Gulf Coast Open''', took place on 9 November 2014 at Gator Paintball Extreme in Hudson, Florida.[4]

A six-event calendar followed in 2015, beginning with the Treasure Coast Open in Port St. Lucie and ending with the Social Cup in Hudson. Other events that season took place in Kissimmee and Jacksonville.[2]

The league subsequently expanded its calendar beyond Florida. Its 2019 season included the Peach State Classic in Perry, Georgia, and the Memorial Cup in Ball Ground, Georgia.[2]

== Competition formats ==
SPL has offered five-player RaceTo-2 competition for Divisions 4 and 5, alongside three-player competition that included a beginner Division 6 category. Player classification limits determine eligibility for each division.[3]

Under the league's 2025 RaceTo-2 rulebook, three-player points have a three-minute limit and five-player points have a five-minute limit. Teams play points in rotation against their scheduled opponents. A match ends when a team scores two points, three points have been played or a team forfeits. Preliminary matches can finish as draws.[5]

== Events and season structure ==
SPL events contribute to season standings, with the Social Cup serving as the final event on its published calendars.[2]

In 2022, the league organised an '''Orange Conference''' in Florida and a '''Peach Conference''' in Georgia. Teams counted their four highest scores from the eight conference events, then added their Social Cup result to determine the series champions.[2]

The 2024 calendar comprised six events across Florida and Georgia. Both the opening event and the Social Cup carried double points towards the season standings.[2]
