New York Xtreme, also known as NY Xtreme or NYX, is an American professional paintball team competing in the National Xball League (NXL). The name was originally used by one of the eight founding franchises of the professional NXL in 2003 and was subsequently adopted by a New York-based organisation that entered the modern NXL professional division in 2018.[1][2]

The modern team developed from an organisation previously known as NY Outlaws. Its achievements include a second-place finish at the 2017 NXL World Cup in the semi-professional division and sixth place in the 2023 NXL professional season standings. In 2025, New York Xtreme combined with fellow professional team MLKings, continuing under the NYX name.[2][3][4]

History
Original NXL franchise (2003–2004)
New York Xtreme was one of the eight original franchises established for the inaugural National Xball League season in 2003.

The league introduced a professional franchise structure using the X-Ball format, with teams representing major American metropolitan areas.

The original franchises were Baltimore Trauma, Chicago Aftershock, Detroit Thunder, Los Angeles Ironmen, Miami Effect, New York Xtreme, Oakland Assassins and Philadelphia Americans.[1]

New York Xtreme competed in the inaugural NXL tournament at the Mardi Gras Open in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 20 February 2003.

In its opening match, Xtreme defeated the Los Angeles Ironmen 13–4.[1]

The team's published 2003 roster included:

* Dennis Mood
* Mike Renner
* Pete Reilly
* Peter Utschig
* Will Arroyo
* Beau Marksohn
* Cody Marksohn
* Alex Lundqvist
* Max Lundqvist
* Chris DiPalmo
* Bart Blonski
* Matt Blonski
* Kyle Stahl
* Chris Brand
* Kenny Balston
* A. J. Nazarro
* Nick Martin
* Albert Smith

Jerry Braun, Steve Cusano and Robert Rose were listed among the team's coaches.[5]

New York Xtreme continued competing in the original NXL during 2004.

At the 2004 PSP Chicago Open, the team defeated the Philadelphia Americans 11–9 in a professional X-Ball match.[6]

The team also participated in the 2004 PSP World Cup, where it contested a series of close matches against Chicago Aftershock.[7]

Modern organisation and semi-professional competition
The modern New York Xtreme organisation developed from a team originally known as NY Outlaws.

In a May 2018 interview published by Planet Eclipse, player Beau Milo stated that the group had started competing as NY Outlaws approximately four years earlier.

The organisation subsequently adopted the New York Xtreme name and developed into a competitive semi-professional NXL team.[2]

During the 2017 season, Xtreme competed in Semi-Pro X-Ball, finishing second at the NXL World Cup behind Sacramento DMG.

The official tournament standings placed Xtreme second among 23 semi-professional teams.[3]

The result preceded the team's entry into the professional division for the following season.

Although the modern team adopted the name of the original New York Xtreme franchise, the available historical records do not establish continuous ownership or organisational continuity between the 2003 and 2018 teams.

Return to professional competition (2018)
New York Xtreme entered the NXL professional division in 2018.

Its first professional tournament of the modern era was the NXL Las Vegas Open.

In the Planet Eclipse interview published on 3 May 2018, Beau Milo described the challenges of the team's debut season, including the increased pace of professional competition and the tactical adjustments required when facing established professional teams.[2]

The team used Planet Eclipse markers during this period, including customised Eclipse CS2 models.

New York Xtreme subsequently continued competing in NXL professional events throughout the following seasons.

Professional development (2021–2022)
New York Xtreme remained a professional NXL team during 2021 and 2022.

Players associated with the organisation during this period included Haris Hussain, Will Hennessy, Jerry Caro, Patrick Kraft, Beau Milo and Tim Stelzl.[8]

At the 2021 NXL Windy City Major, Xtreme finished 15th in the professional division.[9]

The team continued competing against established professional organisations, including San Diego Dynasty, Edmonton Impact, Houston Heat and San Antonio X-Factor.

2023 season
The 2023 season was one of New York Xtreme's strongest documented performances in modern professional competition.

At the season-opening NXL Sunshine State Major, the team finished fourth in the professional division.

Xtreme subsequently finished fifth at both the Lone Star Major and Mid-Atlantic Major, seventh at the Windy City Major and 13th at the World Cup.

These results placed the team sixth in the overall 2023 NXL professional season standings, with 783 points.[10]

During the season, New York Xtreme received attention for its improving results following changes to the team's leadership and roster.

NXL reporting identified Patrick Kraft and Will Hennessy among the players contributing to the team's competitive development.[11]

At the 2023 NXL World Cup, Xtreme won an exhibition competition introducing the 7/3 format, defeating the Brooklyn Bears.

The format awarded points for reaching designated positions and completing scoring objectives, differing from conventional X-Ball.[12]

The team subsequently received the 2023 Breakout Team of the Year award at the Major League Paintball Summit Awards, presented in March 2024.[13]

2024 season
New York Xtreme continued competing in the NXL professional division during 2024.

The team's roster included established players such as Patrick Kraft, Jerry Caro, Will Hennessy, Beau Milo and Tim Stelzl.

Thomas Taylor was also reported as joining Xtreme following his departure from Los Angeles Infamous.[14]

The team finished 20th in the overall 2024 NXL professional standings.[15]

Merger with MLKings (2025)
Ahead of the 2025 professional season, New York Xtreme combined with fellow NXL professional team MLKings.

Equipment manufacturer Adrenaline announced the merger and confirmed its sponsorship of the combined organisation.

The team continued competing under the New York Xtreme name and began using Adrenaline Luxe IDOL markers.[4]

The combined team competed in the 2025 NXL professional season, finishing 21st in the overall standings.[16]

2026 season
New York Xtreme continued participating in NXL professional competition during 2026.

The team competed at the Tampa Bay Open, Mid-Atlantic Open, Midwest Open and Lone Star Open.

After these four events, Xtreme occupied 20th place in the provisional professional season standings.[17]

Equipment and sponsorship
New York Xtreme has maintained relationships with paintball equipment manufacturers supporting its professional competition programme.

In 2018, the team used customised Planet Eclipse CS2 markers.[2]

By 2025, Adrenaline had become an equipment sponsor following the team's merger with MLKings.

The company supplied Adrenaline Luxe IDOL markers and marketed a New York Xtreme team edition featuring purple and black finishes.[4]
