Malaysian Super7 Championship was a Malaysian seven-player tournament paintball competition held at the Malaysian Paintball Academy (MAPAAC) in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on 30 and 31 August 2008. Contemporary promotional material styled the event as Malaysian Super7 '08.[1]

The tournament was presented by Nemesis Paintball Club in association with the Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL) and was designated an official MY-NPL feeder event.[1] Nemesis Legion won the highest division.[2]

Organisation
MY-NPL headquarters and Nemesis Paintball Club announced the tournament in August 2008. It was held in conjunction with celebrations marking Malaysia's 51st Independence Day.[1]

The tournament programme began with field walking and a captains' meeting on 29 August. Competitive matches were scheduled for 30 and 31 August, with the finals taking place on the second day.[1]

The event used two playing fields at MAPAAC, located at Kompleks Sukan Astaka in Petaling Jaya. Mohd Sofian Mohd Daud, the MY-NPL tournament director, was listed among the event contacts.[1]

Format
Each team was permitted nine active players on its roster and could field a maximum of seven players in each game.[1]

The announced firing modes permitted electronic markers operating in semi-automatic or NPPL mode, PSP burst mode or Millennium ramping mode.[1]

Pre-tournament material advertised three categories:

* Open Division, open to Malaysian teams;
* Amateur Division, open to teams from Malaysia and elsewhere in Asia, with a maximum of two Division 1 players on each roster;
* Novice Division, restricted to Malaysian Division 3 and Division 4 teams, with Division 1 and Division 2 players ineligible.[1]

The published final results instead used the designations Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4.[2] The surviving reports do not explain whether the divisional structure was revised before the tournament or whether the results used a different naming system for the advertised categories.

Prize structure
The announced Open Division champion was eligible to receive RM9,000, medals and a cup. The Open Division runners-up were offered RM4,500, while third place carried RM2,000.[1]

The advertised Amateur Division prizes were RM5,500 for first place, RM2,500 for second and RM1,500 for third. The corresponding Novice Division prizes were RM3,500, RM2,000 and RM1,000.[1]

The announcement stated that prize money would be reduced by 20 per cent in any division attracting fewer than ten teams.[1]

Media coverage
Villain Paintball reported that the tournament appeared on Bernama TV news on 31 August 2008.[3] The surviving blog entry does not contain the broadcast or provide details of its duration or content.

A separate Villain Paintball gallery documented the tournament across its field-walking day and two competition days.[4]

Relationship with other Super7 competitions
MY-NPL had previously organised seven-player tournaments under the MY-NPL Super7 name. Contemporary reporting states that MY-NPL introduced an NPL Super7 tournament in 2006 and promoted another event for the end of 2007, which was postponed to January 2008.[5][6]

The available sources describe the Malaysian Super7 Championship as a separately presented MY-NPL feeder event brought forward by Nemesis Paintball Club.[1] They do not establish that the 2008 Malaysian Super7 was an edition of a continuous series encompassing the earlier MY-NPL Super7 tournaments.

Following the competition, MY-NPL announced that Division 1 of its 2009 league season would adopt the seven-player format. Contemporary commentary identified the Malaysian Super7 as one of the events through which Malaysian Division 1 teams had gained experience of seven-player competition.[7]

The Malaysian Super7 Championship should not be confused with the later International Super Seven Championship, first held in 2009.
