The event was promoted under the theme '''World in Chaos''' and featured the continuing conflict between UNA and EKRON.[1]

== Event ==

Decay of Nations 17 was organised by SC Village as a two-day scenario paintball competition.

The event featured two opposing factions:

* '''UNA:''' The blue team.
* '''EKRON:''' The red team.

Advance promotional material was circulated in May 2024, with registration opening several months before the event. The organisers used a tiered registration system in which admission prices increased as successive groups of places were sold.[1]

The event was held across SC Village's established scenario paintball playing areas, with missions coordinated by the opposing command staffs.

== Game format ==

The official rules incorporated objective-based gameplay, reinsertion points and specialised scenario equipment.

Players could return to the game through designated reinsertion points, including team command posts and controlled flag stations.

The event permitted approved equipment including:

* Paintball tanks and armoured vehicles.
* Single-player armoured suits known as mechs.
* Defensive shields.
* Paintball grenades and approved rocket launchers.

All specialised equipment required inspection and approval by event officials.

Paintball markers were restricted to semi-automatic operation, with a maximum muzzle velocity of 285 feet per second. First Strike rounds were prohibited.[2]

== Equipment and vendors ==

The event operated under a field-paint-only policy, requiring participants to use paintballs purchased specifically for the event.

A July 2024 announcement identified three available grades:

* GI Sportz 4 Star.
* GI Sportz 5 Star.
* Valken Graffiti.

The event also included opportunities for paintball equipment vendors and retailers to exhibit their products.[1]

== Event coverage ==

The event was documented by participating players and paintball photographers.

Contemporary discussions on the M. Carter Brown paintball forum recorded participation from both factions, including players using specialised shields and mechs.[3]

Photographer Gary Baum of PaintballPhotography.com was identified among those covering the event. Participants subsequently shared links to photographic albums and video footage recorded during the weekend.[3]
