Bad Company was a British tournament paintball team active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Led by Steve Mattacott, the team was among the established competitors during the formative period of organised paintball in the United Kingdom. [1]

Bad Company participated in the 1988 Survival Splatmaster Championship and subsequently competed in the early Mayhem Masters tournaments. The team was also associated with players who later formed UK Predators. [1][2]

The organisation was separate from Bad Company (American paintball team), the American professional team led by Tom Cole.

History
Early tournament competition
Bad Company was competing nationally by 1988.

That year, the team participated in the Survival Splatmaster Championship at Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The tournament attracted 16 teams, including Bart's Stud Squad, Nam Wrecking Crew and the Terminators.

The competition used a 15-player format, which was standard in early British tournament paintball. [1]

A historical account written by Pete "Robbo" Robinson and John Amodea identifies Steve Mattacott as Bad Company's leader during this period. [1]

Mayhem Masters
Bad Company competed in the early Mayhem Masters tournaments, which became important fixtures in British competitive paintball.

A retrospective by Robinson and Amodea credits Bad Company with second place at the 1989 event in Coventry, behind Bart's Stud Squad. However, a later interview involving Robinson and Marcus Davis contains a different recollection of the runner-up position. The precise finishing order has therefore not been independently established. [1][2]

Bad Company was also among the established British teams competing at the 1990 Mayhem Masters at Finmere.

The tournament was won by UK Predators, led by Marcus Davis, whose victory ended the early dominance of established teams such as Bart's Stud Squad. [1][2]

Connection to UK Predators
Bad Company played a role in the early development of the UK Predators organisation.

According to a firsthand recollection by Anthony "Shiney" Elvins, he and Marcus Davis originally played together for Bad Company before leaving to establish the Predators. [2]

The Predators subsequently became one of Britain's most successful tournament teams during the 1990s.

The account establishes a personnel connection between the two organisations, although their competitive histories are distinct.

Documented players
Individuals associated with the British Bad Company team include:

* Steve Mattacott – Team leader during the late 1980s.
* Marcus Davis – Early player who subsequently helped establish UK Predators.
* Anthony "Shiney" Elvins – Early player who subsequently joined the formation of UK Predators.

[1][2]

Historical record
Bad Company was part of the first generation of organised British tournament teams, alongside Bart's Stud Squad and Nam Wrecking Crew. These organisations competed before the establishment of the later European professional tournament circuits. [1]

The team's documented participation in the 1988 Survival Splatmaster Championship and early Mayhem Masters events establishes its presence during this formative period.

The available sources do not confirm a founding date, a complete team roster or a formal dissolution date.
