The American Paintball Players Association (APPA) is an American paintball tournament administration and player-registration organisation established in 2005 by Chris Raehl. The APPA developed an online system for registering players, managing tournament rosters, classifying competitors and administering organised paintball competitions.[1][2]

Its registration and classification services were adopted by major American tournament organisations, including Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP), the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) and the National Xball League (NXL). The system subsequently became associated with the PBLeagues.com tournament management platform.[2][3]

History
Establishment (2005)
The American Paintball Players Association was established in 2005 by Chris Raehl.

The organisation developed an online registration and classification system intended to provide tournament promoters with a common method of managing players and teams.

The APPA system maintained player identification records, competition classifications and team rosters.

These services allowed participating leagues to administer eligibility requirements and maintain records of player participation across multiple events.[1][2]

Adoption by tournament organisations
During 2006 and 2007, the APPA system became increasingly prominent in American tournament paintball.

The NPPL announced that it would use APPA player classifications and registration services for its 2007 season.

Contemporary reporting also documented APPA's involvement in PSP player classifications and registration.

The use of a shared database helped tournament organisers manage players who competed in multiple leagues.[2][3]

Player classification
The APPA developed a player classification system based on tournament participation and performance.

The system was intended to assist organisers in assigning players to appropriate competitive divisions.

Player classifications were used in conjunction with individual league regulations, which determined eligibility and roster restrictions.

The APPA system also maintained records of teams and individual tournament participation.[1][2]

PBLeagues
The APPA system subsequently became associated with the PBLeagues.com platform.

PBLeagues provides online tournament administration services, including:

* Player registration.
* Team roster management.
* Tournament schedules.
* Competition standings.
* Player classifications.
* Event results and rankings.

The platform has been used by tournament organisers in North America and internationally.[4]

Role in tournament paintball
The APPA contributed to the development of centralised tournament administration.

Before the widespread adoption of online registration systems, tournament organisers often maintained separate player and team records.

The APPA system provided a method for identifying competitors and recording their participation across multiple events.

Its classification database also supported divisional eligibility systems used by professional and amateur leagues.
